Recently, Solidigm, a subsidiary of South Korean memory manufacturer SK Hynix, announced that it plans to establish a research and development center in the western United States.

It is reported that Solidigm plans to invest more than US$100 million to establish a semiconductor R&D center in California, USA. The R&D center covers an area of about 20,000 square meters. The company expects to move in in the first quarter of 2023, which will create 1,900 jobs.

According to the data, Solidigm is a subsidiary established after SK Hynix acquired Intel's NAND Flash flash memory division in December 2021.

According to market research firm TrendForce, the NAND Flash revenue of SK Group (SK hynix & Solidigm) reached US$3.61 billion in the second quarter of this year, up 12.1% quarter-on-quarter.

Regarding the reason why South Korea's SK Group decided to invest in the California R&D center in the United States, the Korean media BusinessKorea reported that it aims to expand the R&D cooperation with American universities in the semiconductor industry through investment to establish advanced memory packaging technology and equipment.
